Guru Sejati
This painting is an offering imbued with a bittersweet sentiment. Hanoman, with deep reverence, prays to the Creator for rain—a symbol of refreshment and divine wisdom that soothes the heart. Hanoman serves as a teacher, guiding one toward enlightenment. The bitterness conveyed is visible in the figure of the teacher, Hanoman, whose mouth is bound by a rope. This rope symbolizes the knot of reason, signifying that true divine knowledge cannot be attained through intellect alone but through feeling. It reflects a modern phenomenon where most people pursue knowledge solely for the intellect while their souls remain shackled, neglected without the soothing wisdom of feeling to free them from the prison of self. This preoccupation with materialism emerges as a result. The Javanese proverb "Ngelmu iku kalakone kanthi laku" emphasizes that the attainment of knowledge comes through a journey—both physical and spiritual—not merely through reason.
