Mata Kerinduan
“Mata Kerinduan” (“Eyes of Longing”) is a term I use to describe an imaginative event in which the subconscious longs for a familiar sense of freshness. In the context of this painting, there is an element of the rice field—a pile of straw before it decomposes and becomes part of the mud—which forms the illusionary texture of the iris of an eye traveling into the future, embracing beauty. This imaginative event of longing unfolds in shades of blue. The iris of the eye is a visual symbol that I have recently used to express the vision of the subconscious. In another work, when I paint the eye together with its white part (the sclera), it represents conscious vision.
