Cooperate
The spirit of mutual cooperation remains strong among coastal communities. On various occasions, fishermen work together to complete tasks. This cooperative spirit is evident in many moments, such as when fishermen launch a new boat to be used at sea. Dozens of coastal residents join forces, pulling the completed boat from land to water. Another tradition is the “petik laut” (sea harvest) ceremony. This event is a clear testament to the unity and solidarity of coastal communities, even amid the challenges of modern times. Residents hope that through these efforts, they can be more productive at sea and improve their livelihoods.
Dimas Prayogo
I’m Dimas Prayogo, or Bogang, from Gresik. My art focuses on raising awareness of coastal communities, influenced by Raden Saleh and Jonas Burgert. Growing up surrounded by artists in my family, I’ve always had a passion for painting. Though self-taught, I was mentored by a local artist after a missed opportunity at ISI Yogyakarta, leading to my first exhibition in 2020.
