Atma Jalir
This artwork visualizes the journey of the atma into the niskala realm as a consequence of human behavior while living in the Sekala world. The female figure at the center of the composition represents Atma Jalir, a soul bound by karma resulting from infidelity. The two giant figures on the left and right symbolize Bhuta Lenda-Lendi, niskala forces representing the punishment for such actions.
The atma’s outstretched and bound body serves as a metaphor for human powerlessness when confronted with the law of karma. She no longer has control over her body or her circumstances. The restraints around her hands and feet reinforce the idea that every action carries consequences that cannot be avoided.
The forest, waterfall, trees, and small figures in the background depict the niskala realm as a space of transition and moral judgment. These elements are not merely decorative, but create an atmosphere between the Sekala and niskala worlds—a space where the atma faces the consequences of its previous life.
Philosophically, this work does not only speak of punishment for infidelity, but also explores the concept of Karma Phala: that every human action leaves consequences for which one must take responsibility. The bound body symbolizes humanity’s attachment to kama, desire, and passion, while the two Bhuta figures personify the consequences that arise when these impulses are not guided by dharma.
Thus, Atma Jalir serves as a reminder that human freedom in life is always accompanied by moral responsibility. What is done in the Sekala world becomes part of the atma’s journey into the niskala realm. The story invites us to control our desires, uphold faithfulness, and live according to dharma, so that the atma does not become bound by the harmful consequences of its own actions.
