Vanarayana is about the journey of the Varanas. The Varanas are both the army and devotees of Lord Rama. The Vanaras are depicted as monkeys, birds, bears, tigers, and other animal forms. In this illustration, several Vanara characters are portrayed, namely Hanuman, Anggada, Anila, and Nala. This illustration is inspired by wayang wong performances based on the Ramayana, which are frequently staged in the village where I lived and have been passed down through generations.
