Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I’m from Tampaksiring, Bali. Like most places in Bali, I’m really connected to the local culture, especially with things like wayang parwa and wayang orang performances. That stuff really inspires my work.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
As an illustrator, I really admire Yuko Shimizu.
How do you define success as an artist?
When I feel good about what I’ve made, and when people who see my work feel the same way.
How do you develop your art skills?
I work on my art skills mostly on my own, mostly by checking out what other artists are doing.
Describe your dream project.
I really want to be free from my job so I can focus on creating whatever I like.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
"I am currently fascinated by 1950s cartoon trends, particularly vintage retro cartoons."
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
"It is an illustration about my ancestors."
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
"Anytime inspiration strikes, but usually in the morning after everyone in the house has left for work, and I am alone at home."
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I overcome challenges in creating art by using it as a way to release stress from work and personal problems. When inspiration strikes, especially in the quiet mornings when I am alone at home, I can focus better on my creative process.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
A quote from Keith Haring: "Art should be something that liberates your soul."
