
Pekak (Grandfather)
Pekak (Grandfather) is a deeply personal tribute to my late grandfather, who passed away a few years ago. During his life, I was not very close to him because of the different language, but through the process of painting, I found myself connecting to his quiet strength and presence in a way I hadn't before. This painting explores themes of family, memory, and reconciliation - capturing not only likeness but also emotional distance and closeness that can coexist in familial relationships. By painting him, I felt I was able to know him better, to honor his story, and to carry a piece of him forward through my art.
