Raditi

1996

Hi, I Am Ratih PN Ardianti or Raditi. I am an emerging artist from South Jakarta, Depok. My work reflects a fast-paced environment, emphasizing mental health and self-acceptance, particularly in my "Be Brave" series, which encourages viewers to confront their reflections. Art is central to my personal growth and informs my role as a graphic designer and educator. I value audience interaction and see art galleries as vital for advancing my career. My guiding philosophy is: “Art should be like a holiday: something to give a man the opportunity to see things differently.”

Interview with Raditi

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I have lived in South Jakarta and Depok since I was a child. Everything here is fast-paced, complete, and constantly updated. This makes it easier to do anything, especially in the arts.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
The most influential figures in shaping my artistic path are my parents, especially my mother, because they introduced me to the world of art when I was a child. The experiences and lessons I gained during my childhood equipped me for my artistic journey, allowing me to improvise as I progressed.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success as an artist is defined by the ability to recognize oneself, be aware of what one creates, and become known, with the work reaching a wider audience.
How do you develop your art skills?
In addition to making art a hobby, I actively participated in courses, residencies, and informal art studies at Gudskul from 2018 to 2020. These experiences taught me a lot, not just about creating works and becoming an exhibitor, but also about networking, collaborating, and organizing exhibitions. Additionally, I participate in artist submissions and exhibitions to further develop my skills.
Describe your dream project.
I have several dream projects, one of which I designed in 2020: to create a contemporary art gallery with a minimalist style in the city of Malang. The gallery would function not only as an exhibition space but also as a creative space for artists and the public, with a special room for children's activities. I chose Malang because the art and youth scene there has been growing rapidly, yet the number of art galleries is limited. It is also my destination city for homecoming, aside from Blitar.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
My latest work is a submission with the theme "Home Sweet Home." The main inspiration for this piece comes from childhood memories.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
The special message I strive to convey through my works is about mental health. Art keeps me sane; I may not be okay, but I can create art and share it with others. I also aim to raise awareness that people with mental disorders can express themselves through beautiful works of art.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
My creative process always involves pen and paper; I love sketching designs for my work. Notably, I never create flat 2D works; my pieces are always dimensional, whether they are mixed media or installations.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I try to remain relaxed, as art should be enjoyable, not stressful. My approach is to engage in fun activities for a while before returning to work on my art.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
“Art should be like a holiday: something to give a man the opportunity to see things differently and to change his point of view." - Paul Klee.
