I See The Moon On Your Face
This art piece was commissioned for a movie titled "Mangsa Hujan Ngepris". The art style of Sudjojono inspired me since the time setting for the film was Indonesia in the 1960s when the LEKRA emerged and started to grow in popularity. The designated painter in this movie was named Damar and was part of the LEKRA organization; the woman in this picture was supposed to be his secret lover, Mira. By painting Mira from his perspective, I want to grasp the erotic and secretive impression of a forbidden love. Damar is an explorative artist who likes to paint freely and has no prominent style. In this painting, I tried to capture the essence of Damar's character by taking references from the faces of LEKRA, such as the legendary Sudjojono, and interpreting them from my standpoint.
