Jerojerrr

2000

I am Jerojerrr, an artist from Bintaro, South Jakarta, where my surroundings inspire my surrealist works like Half Past You. Influenced by Salvador Dalí and others, I create art that reflects personal emotions and aims to impact society. Working primarily with drawing on canvas and paper, I focus on sincerity and conceptual depth, constantly refining my skills. My art encourages others to embrace being fully human, guided by Dalí’s words: “Take me, I am hallucinogenic.”

Interview with Jerojerrr

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I’m Jerojerrr, from Bintaro, South Jakarta. Bintaro and Jakarta play a significant role in shaping my creative process, as well as the visual and conceptual aspects of my work. For instance, the Half Past You series captures what I’ve discovered and felt—emotional experiences and the vibrant dynamics of a small neighborhood like Bintaro.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
Several artists have deeply influenced my practice, including René Magritte, Garis Edelweiss, Ronald Manullang, and Franz Liszt. However, Salvador Dalí has been the most impactful.
How do you define success as an artist?
For me, success means not only being able to live for and through my art but also creating works that positively impact others. Each step in my artistic journey becomes a meaningful contribution to society and humanity.
How do you develop your art skills?
I broaden my perspectives and references, continuously refine my technical and thematic strengths by creating consistently, and stay open to new ideas in art and current social issues.
Describe your dream project.
A solo exhibition featuring mature and interactive works that resonate visually and conceptually with the audience.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
My latest work explores the misinterpretation of the concept of life’s tests, inspired by various events in my life and those around me.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
Be a whole human being!
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
I focus on surrealist drawing techniques, working primarily with canvas and paper as my mediums.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
It depends on the challenge, but understanding and accepting myself, including my values and limitations, helps me overcome obstacles.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
“Take me, I am hallucinogenic.” – Salvador Dalí
