"Tak Berdaya" (Powerless) is an appropriation of Henry Fuseli's "The Nightmare," depicting a woman asleep in an uncomfortable position. I represent the female figure using local iconography, where in Javanese and Balinese culture, the earth is symbolized by Dewi Sri. Environmental destruction by humans becomes a nightmare for the goddess—the earth being mined, deforested, and pierced by foundation rods renders her powerless. Must we wait for the goddess to awaken and unleash her wrath upon our actions? There must be efforts to maintain balance, as humans are born from nature and will ultimately return to it.
