Taking notes from the Gottman Institute, I am moved to make an art piece that shows how "bids" work in a relationship. Gottman refers to bids as "the fundamental unit of emotional communication." Bids can be small or big, verbal or nonverbal. They're requests to connect. They might be an expression, question, or physical outreach. Giving small attention to minuscule things our significant others point out makes a huge difference in someone's relationship. Therefore, feeling like a little child finding a somewhat treasured item on the sands of the beach has a similar warm feeling when we receive attention.
