Yuda Bento

1998

I Gusti Ngurah Agung Yuda Putra or Yudabento, commonly known as Yuda or Bento, is a visual artist, illustrator and graphic designer from Petang, Badung, Bali. During his childhood, he frequently accompanied his grandfather, a Balinese building architect, particularly during his work on creating merajan (Balinese temples). Interview with Yuda Bento

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I come from Petang-Badung. My origin doesn’t significantly affect my current work as a freelance artist & illustrator because in my hometown, art is not very popular or considered a profession.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
Local: Monez, Raka Jana, Aprut. National: WD Willy, Muklay, Iannocent. International: Brock Hofer, Brian Allen, Pedro Correa.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success as an artist means being able to survive, meet your life's needs, and sustain your lifestyle through your artwork.
How do you develop your art skills?
By creating every day, using any medium and tool available. Art is broad and offers endless possibilities.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is to build a Balinese-style house with an art and design studio, surrounded by a garden filled with plants, statues, and other artworks, along with a collection of paintings by great artists.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
The main inspiration behind my latest artwork is the basic elements of the universe and its contents.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
I just want to visualize what I experience and feel. There is no specific theme; I always create different works.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
There isn’t a special technique. I use common techniques that many other artists and illustrators use.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
It depends on the challenge. The biggest challenge is often coming up with ideas. Sometimes the more you try to force it, the harder it gets; other times, ideas come naturally when you’re not trying.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
"An artist is also a professional who deserves respect."
