Thariq Raam

2002

My name is Thariq Siraj Ramadhan or Thariq Raam. I am an artist from Batu, a city historically known for its realist artists, and I aim to revive this spirit through my own realist creations. Influenced by John Singer Sargent and Brad Kunkle, I aspire for my work to gain recognition in prestigious auctions. Art helps me develop critical and aesthetic thinking, although I often struggle with consistency in my visual creations, continually refining them until they feel complete. My dream project is to host an art event with notable figures in the visual arts, fostering connections among artists. I draw inspiration from nature's dynamic lines and address social and environmental issues in my work. While I have yet to find a dominant style, I am committed to exploring and evolving my artistic expression.

Interview with Thariq Raam

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I come from Batu City, a city that was once known as a nest of Realist artists who were lost over time. I wanted to bring back that artistic spirit, so I chose a realistic creative style approach.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
John Singer Sargent and Brad Kunkle. Their work can enter famous auction houses and be sold at high prices without the artist's knowledge.
How do you define success as an artist?
For me, art can help develop critical and especially aesthetic thinking.
How do you develop your art skills?
I tend to be less consistent in matters of visual creation and am not easily satisfied with the results, so I continue to develop my visual subject matter until I think it is mature.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is to be able to organize an art event with important people in the field of fine arts, where the goal is to strengthen relationships between artists across regions and increase collaboration.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
I am inspired by the dynamic lines that nature creates in grass and trees, as well as technical issues on how unfinished works can be turned into advantages in the work regarding social and natural issues.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
I want to respond to technical issues that seem "unfinished" as both a distraction and an artistic element.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
Sometimes I need quiet time and a contemplative space to control and find solutions to problems.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I control and find solutions to problems through quiet contemplation.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
"There is no journey more beautiful than returning to the most beautiful." - Nasirun
