Interview with Sigit Nurcahyo

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I come from Yogyakarta, a place where arts and culture thrive. It provides a good environment for me to work and create.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
My artistic process is influenced by my immediate environment, including the community and society around me.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success as an artist is when the work created can have an impact, at least on oneself, and ideally on the general public.
How do you develop your art skills?
I develop my work by experimenting and exploring different techniques, media, and concepts. I also network with communities and fellow artists to exchange ideas, experiences, and insights.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is to have a solo exhibition and set up an art class.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
The inspiration for my latest work is personal. I am working on a painting, 1 meter by 4 meters, about my mother's struggles.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
The best artwork I’ve created is titled "Adaptive and Control" because it was a new experience for me to create installation artwork, and the process took a lot of time.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
My creative process is limitless and flexible. It doesn't have to be confined to paint and canvas—it can be much more than that.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I overcome challenges by sharing ideas, exploring, and constantly experimenting.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote is, "Life is about learning, so learn to live."
