Rezzo Masduki

1987

I’m Rezzo Masduki, an artist born and raised along the northern coast, where pursuing art required resilience and determination. My journey is rooted in overcoming an environment that challenged my dreams, transforming adversity into motivation. Success, for me, means creating art that impacts others positively, not just for personal gain. My works serve as an archive of my life, often featuring symbolic figures that reflect my belief in the grace of GOD. Texture and root-like forms define my style, and I see each creation as a celebration of human experience and discovery.

Interview with Rezzo Masduki

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I'm Rezzo Masduki, born and raised in the northern coastal area. With all the difficulties in creating art in a region that isn't a hub for the arts, it certainly requires strong determination and energy.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
My biggest artistic influence is the support from my family and an environment that diminished my dreams of becoming an artist. Being marginalized has pushed me to prove myself through my art.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success as an artist isn't just about creating and achieving something for oneself but rather about how we can positively impact those around us, whether on a small or large scale.
How do you develop your art skills?
I am deeply committed to creating art, exhibiting, and continually expanding my network as widely as possible.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is to present my work to the broadest public audience possible.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
My work is an archive of my experiences and life journey.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
There are many objects that I purposely make prominent and unusual, which I use as metaphors. For instance, a naked figure is meant as a personal reminder that humans are created without power or ability, except by the help of GOD.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
I create textures and root house forms that define the character of my work.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
The process of creating art is not unlike an adventure, where we search and discover.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
For me, creating is a celebration—a place or moment for us to celebrate what we go through as social beings with all our activities and to duplicate them into a work of art.
