Hello, I am Reza Olitalia. I have a background in Graphic Design as I studied in the Faculty of Art and Design. I started my career as a kindergarten teacher. After approximately ten years of working with children, I developed a career as a counselor so I discovered many stories from various people. This certainly provides a lot of insights and perspectives that influence my work. I mostly influenced by Helen Dardik, John Martono, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Vincent van Gogh, I define success as creating art that resonates with people.

Interview with Reza Olitalia

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I was born and raised in Jakarta. With a background in fine arts, philosophy, and psychology, I started my career as a kindergarten teacher. After about ten years of working with children, I transitioned to a career as a counselor, where I encountered many stories from various people. This certainly provided me with valuable insights and perspectives that influence my work.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
My biggest artistic influences include Helen Dardik, John Martono, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Vincent van Gogh.
How do you define success as an artist?
In my opinion, the success of an artist is measured by how many people can enjoy their work.
How do you develop your art skills?
I develop my artistic skills by continuously exploring and trying various media and techniques.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project would be a joint exhibition with participants from the Journey Through Art workshop that I once conducted.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
Gratitude is the inspiration and theme of my latest work.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
The overall theme of my works is “Stay True to Yourself.”
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
After finding the insights that I want to express through my work, I choose the medium according to how I feel at that moment. The variety in my works is evident through the different techniques and media I use.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I overcome challenges by taking a break and reminding myself that the work can be continued at any time.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
“I am not lucky; I am blessed.”
