Interview with Julia Amanda

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I’m from Denpasar, Bali. Being from Bali has influenced my work, as many of my pieces are inspired by the island's beauty, including the bright colors that represent Bali’s sunsets and the vibrant, joyful atmosphere. Additionally, introducing myself as a Balinese artist often gives my work added recognition, making it easier to promote my products.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
My biggest artistic influences are Roby Dwi Antono, Salvador Dalí, Mark Ryden, and Djoko Pekik.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success for an artist is when their work has a meaningful impact on those who experience it. A successful artist is also one who remains persistent and continues to evolve through the creative process.
How do you develop your art skills?
I develop my art skills by consistently practicing painting on paper and experimenting with different media.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is one that combines fashion with other art forms such as visual mapping, paintings, 3D installations, and art performances, all wrapped in a surrealism flow.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
I am inspired by art trends that explore unconventional media, such as fabric, thread, patchwork, and similar materials.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
My work often reflects the beauty and vibrancy of Bali, incorporating elements of surrealism.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
My favorite time to create is in the afternoon or evening, or whenever I have free time. I often train by sketching in a small sketchbook.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I focus on maintaining a supportive and organized work environment, allowing room for growth and healthy competition.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
"Life is a journey, not an escape. So give meaning to every step in life."
