Putu Adi Suweca

1990

I’m Putu Adi Suweca or Cyx Daeng, an artist from Baturiti, Tabanan, whose work is deeply inspired by the natural beauty of my surroundings—mountains, forests, rivers, and coastlines. Nature plays a central role in my art, reflecting the Balinese concept of Tri Hita Karana, which emphasizes harmony between humans and the environment. My influences include Gustav Klimt and Murakami, and I work primarily with acrylic on canvas using the Sigar Bali technique, blending traditional Balinese styles with bold, modern elements. Success, for me, is creating meaningful artworks that resonate with people and presenting them in exhibitions. I constantly seek inspiration from nature, engage with Bali’s art community, and welcome feedback to grow. My dream is to explore new fields of art and share my creations in solo exhibitions worldwide. My motto, "SemangART", reflects my passion and spirit for the journey of art.

Interview with Putu Adi Suweca

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I am from Baturiti, Tabanan. Being close to nature in the area surrounded by mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, rice fields, and the coast has significantly influenced my works.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
Gustav Klimt, Murakami.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success is relative. For me, it is when I complete my work, present it in exhibitions, and it is highly appreciated and loved by art enthusiasts and the general public. That, to me, is artistic success.
How do you develop your art skills?
I seek inspiration from nature, actively engage with the art community in Bali, have conversations with senior artists, talk with art enthusiasts, and welcome feedback, suggestions, and criticism.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is to continue exploring and diving deeper into various fields of art and to showcase the results of these processes in solo exhibitions both domestically and internationally, or to present my works in expansive public spaces.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
My inspiration comes from the natural surroundings and everything within it.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
The theme of my work often revolves around nature and its entirety. Through my creations, I want to convey the importance of harmonizing human beings and nature, akin to the Balinese concept of Tri Hita Karana.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
My works are visual, two-dimensional pieces created with acrylic on canvas. I use the Sigar Bali technique, incorporating color gradients with bold colors, contour line work, and drawing inspiration from traditional Balinese painting styles and Indonesian batik.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
By continuing the process and never giving up.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
"SemangART" (a play on the Indonesian word semangat meaning "spirit" or "enthusiasm" combined with "art").
