Ozi Trianda

2001

My name is Ozi Trianda and I am a painter from Pontianak, Indonesia. My work is deeply influenced by my environment. Inspired by Van Gogh and the Indonesian artist Bebe Wahyu, I believe that success comes from creating art that speaks for itself without needing explanation. My dream is to hold a solo exhibition and open the first gallery in West Kalimantan to support local artists who lack resources. Currently, I’m working on a piece titled The Archer, which explores themes of mental health and the challenges of adulthood. I draw inspiration from music, which helps me overcome creative blocks and shapes my creative process.

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I am an artist from Pontianak. My environment greatly influences the ideas I develop in my paintings.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
The artist who has had the greatest impact on my work is the late Van Gogh. He has been a significant source of motivation for me. Among Indonesian artists, I look up to Bebe Wahyu as a role model in painting.
How do you define success as an artist?
For me, success in art is when the meaning of a piece can be understood without needing explanation.
How do you develop your art skills?
I don't follow a specific approach to improving my skills. I usually listen to music that resonates with me and can shift my mood, which helps me develop existing ideas further.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is to hold my own solo exhibition, build the first gallery in West Kalimantan, and support local artists who lack resources to create.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
Currently, I’m working on a painting titled “The Archer,” inspired by the phase of adulthood when not everything can be held onto simultaneously.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
Every artwork and painting I create has a meaning and message I want to convey. My work often addresses mental health and human emotions.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
I don't have a specific technique or medium. I usually just paint while listening to music.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I often experience art blocks, mainly because I feel unsatisfied with my creations. To overcome this, I return to listening to music, which helps a lot.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
If only humans saw humans the same way artists see artworks, everybody would be beautiful.
