Modjo

1983

I was born in Surakarta and grew up in Jakarta and Yogyakarta, where multicultural urban life and street culture strongly shaped my artistic journey. Influenced by street art and artists such as Thierry Bruet, I explore social and cultural themes by capturing overlooked moments of everyday life and translating them into visual narratives.

My creative process begins with observing experiences that emotionally disturb or move me, which I document through sketches or photographs before bringing them onto canvas or walls. Recently, I have drawn inspiration from the Barong Bangkung mask from Balinese culture as a symbol of protection. For me, success means sustaining my practice through fair art value while continuously pushing myself to create bolder and more meaningful works.
