Gung De Rah

1976

Gung De Rah is a self-taught artist, his work is deeply influenced by his surroundings, focusing on emotional depth rather than formal academic training. He finds joy in other artists' works but hasn't pinpointed a specific influence. Success, to him, is about the creative journey, not external validation. His art has heightened his sensitivity to life, evolving through experimentation and personal expression. While open to collaboration, his current focus is on larger canvas projects, with abstract and fish motifs being central themes. He encourages viewers to interpret his art freely and approaches challenges with simplicity, resting when tired, creating when inspired. His favorite quote: “Why should people have art in their house?” encapsulates his reflective nature.

Interview with Gung De Rah

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I come from an autodidact (self-taught) background, not an academic art background, and this positively influences my work by making me more sensitive to processing emotions from observing my surroundings.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
I haven’t had any specific artistic influences yet, but I do enjoy other works of art.
How do you define success as an artist?
In my opinion, success is defined by how the artist experiences and progresses through the process from the beginning of creating their work.
How do you develop your art skills?
I develop my skills by expanding my references, observing, and continuously processing my emotions based on my inner turmoil.
Describe your dream project.
Right now, I want to paint on a larger canvas than I have before.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
The shape of a fish, combined with random colors and brushstrokes.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
Not yet, I just let it flow naturally.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
I focus on bold, free-flowing brushstrokes and the collision of colors in all directions.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I keep it simple, if I’m hungry, I eat; if I’m tired, I rest.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
A question: "Why should people have art in their house?"
