Glory Deo Priambada

1994

My name is Glory Deo Priambada, an artist from Wonosobo, where art appreciation is still rare. This has driven me to create works that reach beyond my hometown. Influenced by Kaws and Muklay, I’ve honed my skills through self-study, learning from professionals, and collaborating within the art community. My works often explore social critique and environmental issues, inspired by everyday realities. Recently, I’ve been experimenting with acrylic and oil pastel on canvas, influenced by Lee Gihun. For me, success is personal satisfaction, appreciation from art lovers, and making a living from my craft. I believe that “Whatever your work is, with it you will always be remembered.”

Interview with Glory Deo Priambada

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I am from Wonosobo. In my hometown, it is still very difficult for people to appreciate artworks. Art enthusiasts are extremely rare.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
My works are heavily influenced by Kaws, and for Indonesian artists, I am greatly inspired by Muklay.
How do you define success as an artist?
Personal satisfaction in creating, receiving appreciation from art enthusiasts, and being able to make a living from art.
How do you develop your art skills?
Through self-study, learning from professionals, and learning together with friends in the art community.
Describe your dream project.
To create a three-dimensional artwork.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
The reality of life around us.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
Themes about social criticism and Earth crisis issues.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
None in particular—I am still learning a lot. However, some of my recent works were inspired by Lee Gihun, combining acrylic and oil pastel on canvas.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
If I get bored, I visit more exhibitions or meet other artists—especially those who are already well-known—to chat and exchange knowledge.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
"Whatever your work is, with it you will always be remembered."
