Interview with Noiz Art

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
My name’s Fikri. I’m from Central Sulawesi, Tojo Una-una. I’ve been living for two months in Bali. Bali has many elements for my next artwork, especially paintings, with its rich culture and nature. These aspects are essential for me because I have to explore everything in Bali.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
My paintings are inspired mainly by Basuki Abdullah, a realist painter, and Raden Saleh, one of the most modern artists from Indonesia known for romanticism. I love both genres, which encourage me to produce artwork and explore what’s on my mind.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success for me is creating artwork that resonates with others and contributes positively to the art community.
How do you develop your art skills?
I’ve been honing my artistic skills since elementary school through high school and university. I learned painting techniques from social media, such as YouTube and Facebook, and I exchange knowledge with friends.
Describe your dream project.
For my dream project, I hope to establish a gallery that collects paintings from artists in Central Sulawesi. It could become a platform for young people to develop their artistic skills.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
My latest artworks draw from the cultural and natural elements of Bali, reflecting its beauty and complexity.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
I aim to express the connection between nature and culture, exploring how they shape our identities.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
My creative process involves calming my mind and soul before starting to paint. I often find inspiration during the night, which adds a unique quality to my work.
