Interview with Faisal Siddik

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I was born in Bekasi on June 1, 1999. However, my artistic journey was shaped in the city of Solo. Its calm and comfortable atmosphere allowed me to fully embrace the process of self-discovery through my art.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
There are many artists I admire, with extraordinary works born from long journeys. One of them is Jumaldi Alfi. His works display a wide range of visual variations, yet, in my opinion, he never loses his identity within his creations.
How do you define success as an artist?
For me, success in art is being able to continuously achieve satisfaction in expressing everything I feel through my work. It is also when someone can feel and discover parts of themselves within it.
How do you develop your art skills?
I constantly strive to learn and grow at all times. I seek out new things that challenge me. In my view, consistency is the most important aspect in achieving step-by-step progress to develop artistic potential.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is to hold a solo exhibition.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
I see art as both a perspective and a platform for contemplating how reality works. Drawing from experiences and emotions that often arise throughout life, art becomes a medium to preserve and process each experience into profound reflections.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
Each of my works is a small trace of my life's journey—a process of unraveling inner complexities and reconstructing self-understanding. With every step, I find that art not only captures certain moments or emotions but also unites the various fragments of oneself into a more complete whole. I hope individuals can appreciate and embrace their life journeys while discovering that each of us has something extraordinary within.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
"Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time" – Thomas Merton.
