Interview with Erwin Erlangga

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I am from Bandung, Indonesia. The influence on my work comes from the daily life around me and current events happening in the country.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
First, my father, because he was the one who encouraged my artistic talent. Indonesian artists who have inspired me since I was a teenager are painters Mr. AD Pirous and Mr. Sunaryo, both from Bandung.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success for me is when my artwork is appreciated by many people.
How do you develop your art skills?
I developed my skills by regularly attending art exhibitions, learning from the works of other artists, browsing the art of various countries, and interacting with fellow artists to gain knowledge through discussions and observing their work.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is to have a solo exhibition.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
The main inspiration for my latest work comes from the events and happenings around me, both locally and internationally.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
My work reflects themes of social issues, culture, beauty, and the human experience.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
I have always worked with pencils and paper. I also enjoy working with wood and clay. Over time, I’ve explored watercolors, poster paints, and most recently acrylic paint on canvas. I have also made works using wrought iron.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I view challenges as opportunities for growth and a way to become more recognized.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
"Art can make you live, and you can consider that your life is a work of art, which makes you feel alive every day."
