Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
My name is Erianto, and I’m from West Sumatra. This has had a significant influence because many of my friends give each other encouragement.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
One of my biggest influences from abroad is Damien Hirst, and locally it’s Handiwirman Saputra.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success as an artist, for me, is when someone can make a living from their art and give back to society, both through visual art and in a general sense.
How do you develop your art skills?
By constantly creating, over and over again.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project is to consistently exhibit at international venues like famous museums around the world.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
The main inspiration comes from social life and my immediate environment.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
Yes, there is. For me, art is a way for an artist to communicate with the public through signs and symbols (visual).
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
The technique or medium I use depends on the needs of the work. If it needs to be expressed through painting, I’ll paint. If it requires three dimensions, I’ll create a sculpture.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
By continuously creating, reading, and experimenting.
