Dwymabim

1995

Dwymabim, is a contemporary pop art artist based in Bali. He holds a bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. He loves making sketches for his paintings. Around Bali, he has made many mural paintings, whether solo or communal. Before he switched his genre to street art, he used to be a huge fan of realism. When it comes to painting, Dywma enjoys embedding female characters in his paintings, making this his unique style. When asked, he wanted to show women from many perspectives instead of one perspective. In his series titled "Pop Art by Dwyma", he depicts women in traditional outfits and attributes. He believes that the visual and the story behind a painting make a remarkable painting.

Interview with Dwymabim

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
My name is Dwyma Adinatha. I was born in Tabanan, Bali, but I grew up in Denpasar. I grew up in a family that loves art, especially my great-grandfather, who was an all-round artist involved in various forms of art.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
My biggest influence is my great-grandfather, who has always been my idol and inspiration. Other significant influences include Obey Giant, Andy Warhol, Widrawing, and Muklay.
How do you define success as an artist?
I think one of the challenges of being an artist is to always be consistent in their genre while being true to oneself in creating art that they love.
How do you develop your art skills?
I have trained myself as an artist for many years, starting from a young age when I loved drawing. I later entered a vocational school majoring in art and then pursued a degree in Visual Communication Design (Graphic Design).
Describe your dream project.
One of my dreams is to have a street art exhibition and travel the world with my drawings. I also want to visualize my masterpiece in a unique style during my own exhibition.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
My latest work reflects my passion for depicting female characters in traditional clothing, aiming to show women from multiple perspectives.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
I’m interested in depicting the expressions and gestures of characters, highlighting Balinese culture with vibrant colors.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
My creative process involves drawing on my iPad and experimenting with colors. I find satisfaction in expressing my thoughts and emotions through my art.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
When I feel bored or stuck, I take breaks, ride my bike, and engage in simple activities to refresh my mind and find inspiration.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
My favorite quote from Andy Warhol is: “There is beauty in art, but not everyone can see it.” I strive to convey the beauty I see in my paintings.
