Interview with Chrisna Banyu

Where are you from and how does that affect your work?
I’m from Jogja (Indonesia). It’s very helpful because the environment and friendships here are rich in art.
Who are your biggest artistic influences?
If I had to name the biggest influences on my creative process and way of thinking, they would be figures like Einstein, Steve Jobs, Salvador Dali, and Picasso.
How do you define success as an artist?
Success, to me, isn’t just about making money from my art. True success is when the message and ideology behind my work are appreciated and have an impact, creating a visual effect that challenges and offers a new perspective on how people think.
How do you develop your art skills?
I developed my skills through making friends and sharing experiences. Interacting with others often brings up stories, solutions, and visual input. I also gather insights from books, novels, and films, and I continuously explore visual styles and mediums.
Describe your dream project.
My dream project would be to participate in biennales around the world, hold a solo exhibition every year, and have my work reach a wide audience, from the general public to art collectors. And, if a miracle happens, I’d love for my work to be known on all continents.
What is the main inspiration behind your latest artwork?
My work often reflects the aesthetic experiences I encounter, but there’s an interesting pattern in how I capture these moments to tell stories. I frequently engage in self-dialogue, exploring solutions and ideas. I note down these conversations with myself and translate them into visual art and other creative works.
Is there a specific theme or message that you want to convey through your artwork?
My work frequently engages in self-dialogue, exploring solutions and ideas, which I translate into visual art.
How would you describe your creative process? Is there a special technique or medium that you use?
My creative process involves continuous exploration of visual styles and mediums, drawing from various experiences.
How do you overcome challenges in creating art?
I overcome challenges by engaging in dialogues with myself and seeking solutions through my artistic process.
As an artist, what is your favorite quote?
"Everything you can imagine is real."
